The snow made this week a "short and sweet" one for us!
In math this week, we focused on comparing fractions using a number line. This was our last strategy that students could use to find out which fraction is bigger from a set of two numbers. Then, we worked on converting mixed numbers and improper fractions. Students were given a "Top Chef" challenge where certain recipes needed to be changed or converted. This is an everyday life life application for fractions, and they did a great job with it! We really focused on using models when comparing and converting fractions. See an example of this below:

In reading and writing, we have been exposing ourselves to the many different tasks that we may see on the PARCC test. Students were exposed to the Narrative rubric, and we simplified this and put it in our own "fourth grade" words. After practicing some of these tasks, we always shared with a partner. This helps students understand that they write to be read! They used rubrics to self-assess and partner assess one another. They are very ready for PARCC week!
In science, we began our unit on electricity. Students are working in "Circuit Centers" to explore how a circuit can be made using various components: a bulb, a motor, a switch, battery, and wire. They are having a great time with this!
