We have officially survived our first two days of fourth grade! We have spent a lot of time going over classroom routines, such as arrival and dismissal, fire drills, organization, morning meeting, among other classroom activities. By going over expectations clearly in the beginning of the year, we are setting ourselves up for success for the school year. Today, we thought about our "Superhero Strengths." We discussed how we all bring different talents to the classroom. We each drew a symbol and described in words what we feel our "superpowers" are. These will be up on our bulletin board and hanging in our classroom all year to remind us that each of us bring unique talents to our classroom. We read a book called "Superhero: Everyone Needs a Hero." Afterwards, we discussed what the message was. Students felt that it displayed how you can call on your classmates for help when you are in need, and that they can be everyday heroes in the classroom by tapping into each other's talents for support. For example, if someone feels very confident in drawing, they may be able to help a classmate during an artistic activity. If they are great with their math facts, they may be able to help someone who needs it during math workshop. Check In With Your Child: What did they feel that their superhero strength was? How can thy use this to help others? I am looking forward to our first full week! Have a nice weekend. |

I love how this assignments allows everyone to feel positive about being able to contribute to the classroom as well as to their classmates.
