We had a really fun week in D-405.
In math, we have been exploring various types of angles, triangles, and learned to measure with a protractor! The class was really excited about this. We will continue to review this week. Ask your child to show you their "Geometry Karate" moves!

We have had a mix of safety research and realistic fiction writing this week!
In research, once students were done taking their notes, they moved onto an extension. They seemed really excited about this! Many of them wrote a song, chant, or poem that helps review important safety ideas in their area. Ask your child what they have been working on. We will be working on a presentation that includes this information in the weeks ahead!
In writing, we have been "revising with lenses." So far, we revised with a "Cardboard Character" lens to make sure we included details about how our characters look, act, talk, think, and their relationships with other characters. We spoke about how it is important to develop these characters in ways that contribute to the "big idea" of our stories.
In reading this week, we have been on the edge of our seats with The Tiger Rising! We spoke about how good readers form theories, and how these theories evolve as they learn more information int he text. We shared some examples of how our ideas changed as we read on.
We also continued to track our ideas and use these as starting points for conversations with classmates. Students formed questions, inferences, predictions, opinions as they read. We should be finishing this book next week!

In Social Studies, we have been discussing the Bill of Rights. Each group in our classroom was assigned an amendment, and researched information about it. After summarizing the main ideas in their words, and also clarifying important vocabulary in their amendment, they began an activity to teach the class about these important rights. This academic choice project allowed students to either create a short skit about their amendment, Google Slides presentation, Song, or Google Drawing. We will present these next week!
