We had another very productive week! In math this week, we continued working on our Rocket Math Routine, and also spoke about problem solving. Several times a week, students will be introduced to a problem, and we spoke about a four square strategy to help us solve it. This anchor chart is on our Student Portal for future reference under "Four Square Anchor Chart." We also started working on our thousands book today. Students used a variety of strategies to label the book in order to locate any number from 1-1,000. Ask them how they labeled their books to help them! In writing today, we immersed ourselves in the genre of personal narrative. We listened to some samples, read some, and maintained a "Recipe Card" list of things that ALL personal narratives have. The class had great background knowledge on this topic. See this under anchor charts on our Student Portal as well. As readers, we focused on how to "Read to Someone" with expression and fluency. We did this with both fiction and non-fiction text. Students stopped one another, and checked for understanding by using thought starters. For example, after a partner read a fiction story section, they would say, "I just heard you say...(who)....(what happened?). For non-fiction, they would say, "I just heard you read about ....(section heading) and I learned...(summarize in my own words)." The class really enjoyed this! It really helps them work on their summarizing and retelling for both genres. We also touched on Government this week by putting ourselves in the shoes of delegates at the Constitutional Convention! Students listed "laws of the land" that should govern our classroom. We are still drafting our constitution- these things take time! Check In With Your Child: What was their favorite part of the week? What could they improve on for next week? Have a great weekend! Mrs. Nastasi |
