Our first full week of school was a huge success. We identified our "mission" for fourth grade through reflecting on the past year and thinking about how we could grow. These are now decorating our classroom walls, and we will keep them there all year to remind us of our goals! Also, to review CARES, we started a Google Drive project where students were responsible for teaching their classmates the definition of each word. Ask your child to show you the presentations on our student portal. They were amazing! Our writer's notebooks are ready to go and decorated! We thought about what we want our writer's notebooks to be a place for, and what our notebooks would inspire us to write. We completed a museum walk of our decorated notebooks in order to learn more about what is important to each of us. I am excited to launch the Writer's Workshop next week! We also began Reader's Workshop this week through practicing how we can "Read to Self" effectively. The class was really excited to have the opportunity to relax and read. If your child has a book that they are reading independently at home, encourage them to bring it to school so that they can enjoy it during this time. We started our Math Workshop by thinking about how we use math in everyday life. Students thought about a time when they needed a certain math skill outside of the school day. They represented this in pictures or words. It was great to hear students share the many examples of why it is important to know math! This set the tone for the school year by applying what they are learning to the "real world." We also started discussing our Rocket Math routine. This will help students become more fluent with their multiplication facts. Check in With Your Child: How can they practice their math facts at home? We ended our week with a closing meeting. We agreed that we had a fun week and many of us shared our favorite part. Have a great weekend, and I look forward to seeing you at Back to School Night next week! |
